To
the west, yearly events offer ample opportunity to see and be seen,
from glamorous nightspots in St. Tropez, to the very chic Cannes
Film Festival, to the unparalleled Grand Prix at Monaco. Day trips
to colorful markets, quaint cafes and historic architecture provide
a unique variety of sightseeing, shopping and cultural "tastings."
In
the south of France, Antibes is the center of yachting in the south
of France, with its Picasso Museum. In addition, surrounding seaside
villages offer any number of superb offerings of local cuisine. Or
if you choose, become a part of the nightlife of Monte Carlo, visit
San
Remo on the Italian Riviera, picturesque Portofino or go south to the
Bay of Naples. Here, the Isle of Capri, the Blue Grotto, Ischia, the
spectacular Amalfi coast and the artist community of Positano all have
their unique seductiveness, while superb food and fine wine are also
as abundant here as blue skies.
From
Corsica, with small fishing villages and unspoiled harbors, you can
enjoy the dramatic western coastline,
virtually unchanged since
the ancient Roman Empire.
Crossing the Bonifacio Straits to Sardinia and the Costa Smeralda,
you’ll
discover an incredibly cosmopolitan community developed by the Aga Khan
in the 1950s. And just a few miles away are the unspoiled, uninhabited
Maddelena Islands replete with numerous protected anchorages. Choose
